How to Make Chinese Suzhou Embroidery - Reverse Stitch

There are eighteen basic stitches in Suzhou embroidery. Below is the introduction of the third stitch, reverse stitch.

18- 3 Reverse Stitch

A small section of the embroidery (for example, a flower petal) is divided into several layers of equal width, with the stitching (fig. a). Starting from the second layer, a fastening stitch is added to make the pattern tight. Start stitching at the mid-point of the side line of the next layer and turn the horizontal line into the shape of an inverted “Y” (fig. b). The needlework proceeds from the center to the two sides. The stitches of each layer are made from the open base to the fastening line, with the line pulled tight to make an arc (fig. c). The rest of the layers are embroidered using this technique.
