Chinese hand embroidery art, silk panda embroidery

Pandas are called Xiong Mao in Chinese, meaning "bear-cat", because it looks like a bear in shape and a cat in face. It actually is a member of the bear family. It has black furs on ears, nose, eyes patches and shoulders and the rest is white.

The panda is one of the few animals that has been surviving for millions of years on the earth. It's a moving antique now. Care has to be taken though as the number is dwindling due to deforestation by mankind, hunting by unscrupulous hunters for money, reduction in food (baby bamboos) and also difficulty in conceiving.

While the dragon has often served as China's national emblem, internationally the panda appears at least as commonly. As such, it is becoming widely used within China in international contexts.
