Chinese Suzhou Embroidery Artist - Cai Meiying

suzhou embroidery artist cai meiying

Cai Meiying, senior industrial artist in Suzhou city, was born in 1965 in Zhenhu Suzhou, the hometown of silk embroidery in China. She loved to do embroidery work when she was a little girl. Influenced by her mother and other elders, she learned different embroidery techniques from them. She was a hard-working student and practiced every embroidery technique with great patience and perseverance until she could master it very skillfully.

After many years of doing embroidery, Cai Meiying realized that embroidery is more than craft work. To make the silk embroidery better, she needed to use coloring, light effect and shadow when making the silk embroidery. She learned and improved her embroidery skills from different teachers, painters and photographers.

Cai Meiying has won many national awards at art and crafts exhibitions in China. Many of her embroidery works are collected by museums. In 2005, her embroidery work Mona Lisa won the gold medal at the 7th National Exhibition of Works by Masters of Arts and Crafts.
