Among all embroidery works, landscape embroidery, floral embroidery, animal embroidery and portrait embroidery, portrait embroidery requires the highest hand embroidery skills and techniques. To make the embroidery portrait look the same as the original picture, the embroidery artist must use many silk threads of different colors. A top quality portrait embroidery work may use more than 200 silk threads of different colors. Besides, the skin part of the portrait embroidery need very fine silk threads to make. The embroidery artist split one full silk thread to many thinner silk threads (see the video clip below). One full silk thread can be split to 16 thinner silk threads (one full silk thread divided 4 times). The skin part of the portrait embroidery often use 1/16 silk threads. The silk threads are so tightly and harmoniously mixed that they look as real skin.

Portrait embroidery works from photographs are much more difficult to make than to make a portrait embroidery from a painting. Not too many embroidery women are qualified for this job. Any tiny mistake made during embroidering may ruin the whole embroidery work. When people are looking at a portrait embroidery from an oil painting, they may not notice some small differences between the embroidery and the painting. But when someone is looking at an embroidery from his photo, it's very easy to find out what is missing and where is not the same as the real photo.

We make portrait embroidery of two different quality levels, fine quality and top quality. Most of the portrait embroidery ordered by our customers are of fine quality. But even the fine quality portrait embroideries, our customers were thrilled with them when they were seeing physical embroideries they received.
